In a nutshell
|
This week, Deutsche Telekom and NVIDIA launched the first major phase of the world's first industrial AI cloud, one of Europe's largest AI infrastructures. Thanks to this computing power, Germany will become Europe's leading center of excellence for sovereign AI, the result of a 100% private initiative.
They took the opportunity to announce their first customers and users using this new AI platform. SAP and Deutsche Telekom will set up a sovereign, secure, and high-performance infrastructure for public institutions and security on the industrial cloud dedicated to AI. Deutsche Telekom will provide the physical infrastructure, while SAP will provide the SAP Business Technology Platform and its applications, including cutting-edge AI technologies.
In the future, all digital solutions for this target audience will be developed on the shared “Deutschland-Stack” platform. This will enable the two companies to guarantee the highest standards of data protection, security, and reliability. This partnership embodies digital sovereignty “Made in Germany.”
In addition, a larger ecosystem comprising several companies is currently being formed, including Siemens, Agile Robots, Wandelbots, Quantum Systems, PhysicsX, and Perplexity. In total, around ten companies are already part of this new sovereign AI ecosystem.

This new cutting-edge AI infrastructure will be operational in the first quarter of 2026. It will enable large companies, SMEs, and start-ups in Germany and Europe to develop, train, and use AI for all industrial applications, from design to robotics, thanks to a secure and sovereign IT infrastructure..
Thanks to this computing power, Germany will become Europe's leading sovereign AI hub—built as an entirely private initiative, says the head of Deutsche Telekom.
Currently, more than 1,000 NVIDIA DGX B200 systems and NVIDIA RTX PRO™ servers—equipped with 10,000 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs—running accelerated workloads with NVIDIA CUDA-X, NVIDIA Omniverse, and NVIDIA AI Enterprise software are being installed in a completely renovated data center in Munich.
This data center will be designed in accordance with the strictest security standards and will be located in Munich in a dedicated facility three or four levels underground. It will use exclusively local, fully renewable energy and will benefit from an innovative cooling system based on water from the surrounding river.
According to Timotheus Höttges, CEO of Deutsche Telekom, this approach ensures the reliability of the cooling process. In addition, 75 kilometers of fiber optic cable will be installed to optimally connect the GPUs and the site.
